This week on The Exchange we hear from the winners of the 2023 City/School election.
Businesswoman Julie Schoenherr was reelected to Sioux City City Council last night, according to Woodbury County election results. Schoenherr topped oppenant Tom Murphy by a mere 113 votes.
Schoenherr had the most votes in the primary with 1,006. Murphy came in second in the primary with 762 votes.
Murphy formally worked as the chief building inspector for the City of Sioux City before retirement. Schoenherr was the incumbent and with this win, she secured a second four-year term on the council.
The Sioux City School Board races were in two categories. According to Woodbury County elections official Pat Gill, Businessman and current board president Dan Greenwell was elected to serve fill out the last two years of Perla Alarcon-Flory’s term, defeating Sioux City's first Community Inclusion Liaison Semehar Ghebrekidan 57 to 42 percent.
There were four, four year vacancies on the school board. Woodbury County election results showed that Lance Ehmcke, Treyla Lee, John Meyers and Earl Miller all claimed a spot.
