Saturday in the Park Updates During "Chaotic Year"

Saturday in the Park

The summer calendar has been filling up since the easing of COVID-19 restrictions.

The city of Sioux City announced plans for this year’s Mardi Gras Parade. The event was canceled last year due to COVID-19. The parade kicks off the “Saturday in the Park Festival” on Thursday, July 1st, at 6 p.m. in downtown Sioux City.

Saturday in the Park will take place over two days, Friday, July 2nd, and Saturday, July 3rd at Grandview Park.

Local hip hop duo D.A.D. will be one of the many artists gracing the Abe Stage.

Other acts on the main stage include Sioux City’s own Ultra Violet Fever and Ghost Cat. Some of the national performers are CTA or California Transit Authority, Valorie June, and Trombone Shorty. The headliner for Friday night is AJR, and Saturday night John Fogerty of Creedence Clearwater Revival fame.

Dave Bernstein, one of the co-founders of the event that started in 1991, says this has been a "chaotic"year.

Bernstein was joined by Kelly Quinn of Marty’s Tap, who is in charge of the Abe Stage. Due to construction, the Abe Stage will be moved near the children’s playground on the north side of the park.

Bernstein says more details, including crowd size and masks will be determined sometime in the near future. He shared some frustrations faced trying to please the public.
