Local Elections Take Place Tomorrow, Farmers Ask President Trump to Stick to Ethanol Promise

A broad coalition of biofuel and farm advocates today sent a letter to the White House calling on President Trump to fix a proposal from the Environmental Protection Agency. It notes that the EPA’s draft plan undermines the administration’s commitment to restore integrity to the Renewable Fuel Standard and accurately account for biofuel demand destroyed by Small Refinery Exemptions 

The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association sent out a news release saying the letter says was signed by 60 organizations, including the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association. 

Iowa voters go to the polls tomorrow in city and school board elections. In Sioux City, six candidates will vie for four seats on the Sioux City Community Schools board.  And two candidates are running for Mayor.  They are incumbent Bob Scott and ESL teacher and business owner Maria Rundquist and incumbent council member Rhonda Capron is going up against challenger and 4th street restaurant own Julie Schoenherr.  There is also a school board race in the Lawton-Bronson district. 

Pet licensing fees could be going up in Sioux City.  The action comes as the possibility of doing away with the pit bull ban still looms for the Sioux City Council.  The City manager’s office says an ordinance to repeal the ban was expected to come before council for final consideration today, but the matter will be deferred 

The council today will discuss revising animal control chapters of the City Code. Those revisions would increase the annual license fee for neutered dogs and cats.

A man who stabbed to death a former co-worker who interrupted him during a burglary is set to be executed today in South Dakota barring a last-minute stay.

Charles Russell Rhines killed 22-year-old Donnivan Schaeffer in the 1992 slaying at a Rapid City doughnut shop.
