President Donald Trump plans to visit western this afternoon.  He starts his trip in Council Bluffs to tour and speak at Southwest Iowa Renewable Energy.  The company produces and sells ethanol.  The president will attend a GOP dinner in Des Moines.

Meanwhile, Democrat Joe Biden is visiting the Hawkeye state today as well.  He will speak at events in Ottumwa, Mount Pleasant and Davenport.

On the weekend, more than a dozen of Biden's Democratic rivals were in Iowa for a party dinner.

Several aimed veiled barbs at the former vice president for skipping the event and framed him as someone unable to bring the country into the future.

Biden attended his granddaughter’s high school graduation in Washington, D.C.

Iowa farmers using five days during the past week suitable for field work have now planted 93-percent of the state’s expected corn acreage.

But, corn planting progress is three-weeks later than the five-year average for this date.

U-S-D-A’s weekly update says Iowa soybean planting 70-percent complete  trails last year and the five-year average by seventeen days.

At this early stage of the growing season the USDA rates 58-percent of Iowa’s emerging corn crop in good-to-excellent condition.

And, Iowa produces more fecal matter per square mile than any other state in the country.

A researcher at the University of Iowa found the total waste produced by humans and livestock animals and divided that by the total land area.

Iowa has a hog population of around 20-million head, about the same amount of fecal material as 83-million people.
