Emotions run high when it comes to education during COVID-19; parents with varying outlooks, teachers' unions worried about safety and school leader trying to balance health and education.  Siouxland Public Media reached out to members of the Sioux City Community School District's Board of Directors for their opinions.

Statement from Sioux City School Board Member Dan Greenwell:

Six candidates are vying for four seats on the Sioux City Community Schools Board of Education.  Siouxland Public Media news scheduled a candidate forum for Friday, November 1, 2019 at noon at the downtown Sioux City Public Library.  The election takes place on Tuesday, November 5, 2019.

League of Women Voter

League of Women Voters of Sioux City hosted a candidate forum for the six people running for four open seats on the Sioux City School Board.

Miyuki Nelson is the only current school board member in the election.

“I am currently serving on the board for one reason,  I want to make sure I made a difference that I make a difference through our kids by improving our community by their achievements.”

Juline Albert is Vice President of Learning at Western Iowa Tech Community College and has 27 years of educational experience.
