Federal Cuts to CPB Raise Concerns for Public Media, Including Siouxland Public Media

Following Trump's request to rescind funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, Congress has acted to eliminate funds previously allocated to the private corporation that supports stations like Siouxland Public Media.

Bret Hayworth spoke with Mark Munger about the decision, clarifying common misconceptions about the CPB’s role, which entities it funds, which stations will be most affected, and what this move could mean for the future.

Bret Hayworth is a native of Northwest Iowa and graduate of the University of Northern Iowa with nearly 30 years working as an award-winning journalist. He enjoys conversing with people to tell the stories about Siouxland that inform, entertain, and expand the mind, both daily in SPM newscasts and on the weekly show What's The Frequency.
Mark Munger first began listening to public radio as a child in the back of his Mom's VW Vanagon, falling in love with the stories on Morning Edition and Prairie Home Companion and the laughter of Click and Clack on Car Talk. Through KWIT, he was introduced to the great orchestras and jazz artists, the sounds of folk and blues, and the eclectic expressions of humanity. This American Life and Radiolab arrived in his formative college years and made him want nothing more than to be a part of the public radio world.
