A deadly fire in Sioux City remains under investigation. A man and woman died at hospital of their injuries, another man critically hurt.
The fire broke out at a home on West 1st Street about 7 blocks west of Hamilton Boulevard.
While putting out the fire and looking in the basement firefighters found the three fire victims.
Sioux City Fire Marshal Mark Aesoph there weren’t any working smoke alarms in the house.
The home is a rental property and local law mandates working smoke alarms.
The Associated Press is unable to declare a winner of Iowa’s Democratic caucuses.
Following the Iowa Democratic Party's release of new results late Thursday night, Pete Buttigieg leads Bernie Sanders by two state delegate equivalents out of 2,152 counted.
That is a margin of 0.09 percentage points.
However, there is evidence the party has not accurately tabulated some of its results, including those released late Thursday that the party reported as complete.
The AP's tabulation of the party's results are at 99% of precincts reporting, with data missing from one of 1,765 precincts, among other issues.
And, according to local numbers, Sanders won Woodbury County, followed by Joe Biden then Buttigieg.
County wide, turnout according to local Democratic officials was down about 700 from the caucus in 2016.
The Sioux City Journal reports Sanders also carried Buena Vista and Cherokee Counties.
Buttigieg took Plymouth, Osceola, Sac, Calhoun, Ida, Monona and Dickinson. Biden won Clay, O’Brien and Crawford, and Amy Kobuchar, Lyon County.
U.S. Sen. Mike Rounds of South Dakota announced he is seeking reelection after recent months of uncertainty while his wife underwent treatment for cancer.
The first-term Republican from South Dakota made the announcement the day after voting to acquit President Donald Trump of impeachment charges.
He will face a state representative in the Republican primary.
South Dakota Rep. Scyller Borglum of Rapid City is running against Rounds and has tried to position herself as more right-wing.
Rounds holds a huge cash advantage over Borglum.
The Iowa Senate has unanimously approved additional flood relief funding, but some say the 20 million dollars isn’t enough.
Democratic Senator Rob Hogg of Cedar Rapids says the need is closer to 120-million dollars. He criticized Republicans for saying they would consider additional funding later.
"We don’t have a plan right now, we might come up with a plan later? Good lord. We are 11 months after this flood disaster started and we still have no plan. That’s tragic.”
But, Republicans say they’re following the lead of the governor and the emergency management department. And they say they don’t want to jeopardize the potential for more federal funding.
The 20-million dollars will bring the total direct state flood relief funding for this fiscal year to 35-miillion.
Sandhill crane watchers are getting ready for a new season in central Nebraska after a prolonged cold spell and flooding last year that kept some people from seeing them in person.
The president and CEO of the Crane Trust, says blind tours are expected to begin as scheduled on March 1, although VIP tours may be delayed until March 6.
As many as half a million sandhill cranes converge on the Platte River in central Nebraska from mid-February through mid-April.
The cranes fly in from their winter grounds in Texas and New Mexico and stop for about a week or more.
