Democratic candidate for president Bernie Sanders used his brief time off from the impeachment trial this weekend to campaign in Siouxland.

He stopped in Sioux City Sunday night after visiting Storm Lake earlier in the day.

Siouxland Public Media’s Sheila Brummer was there as he brought some star power to the Convention Center.

A rock concert atmosphere full of energized supporters for Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders in Sioux City.  Some couldn’t even fit in the room.

“He’s the Trump stopper and his name is Bernie Sanders.”

Movie director Michael Moore told the crowd he’s tired of Democrats playing it safe.

“What has it gotten us?  No decent wage increases for people in 30-plus years?”

Then Moore introduced another big Democratic supporter.

“Representative Alexandrea Ocasio-Cortez.”

The New York Congresswoman also known as AOC.

“This is our moment, this is our shot.  So, what we need is to make sure we actually translate this energy into the caucus,” said Ocasio-Cortez.

AOC pushed the group to expand the electorate to get people out who usually don’t vote.

That’s what she credits for winning her seat in Congress.

“At the end of day it is is person-to-person contact.  This is why I’m supporting Bernie Sanders,” said Ocasio-Cortez.

“I believe we are going to win because we have put together in this state the most extraordinary grass-roots movement Iowa has ever seen,” said Sanders.

Sanders returned to Washington on Sunday night to serve as a juror in the impeachment trial of President Trump.

Sanders originally planned on visiting every part of the state, every day before the Iowa caucus with a message of working class people fighting for change, with affordable child care, health care for all, ending tax breaks for the wealthy, wiping out college debt, legalizing marijuana, immigration and more.
