Paving crews have been working in recent days on extending the Dickinson County Trail system on the south edge of Milford.

We have more information from Bret Hayworth…

The most recent work involved the trail being placed along the west side of U.S. Highway 71 at Milford.

That is part of a plan to have a recreation trail segment in Clay County fully connected to the northerly Iowa Great Lakes trail system, which had only gone as far as Milford.

Within the past year, a Clay County piece was extended from in Spencer about 7 miles north to Fostoria.

Now, to fully connect Dickinson County to Spencer, all that remain are a few miles needed to link Milford to Fostoria. Much of that segment is within eyeshot of people driving parallel on Highway 71.

Also in Clay County, the Iowa Department of Transportation on Tuesday awarded a RISE grant to the city of Spencer to use for building streets near a business park.

Spencer will get $833,00 from the Revitalize Iowa’s Sound Economy program, for a project that will be done by September 2026.
