SIOUX CITY, Iowa — A former Sioux City Community School District superintendent has signed a settlement agreement with the Iowa Board of Education Examiners. According to a report from KCAU 9 TV, Paul Gausman agreed to a public reprimand and a 180-day suspension of his state license, which is currently inactive.
The settlement dates back to a complaint filed in 2023 by the school district which said that Gausman tried to bribe tow newly-elected school board members to pick a board president that he preferred. A second complaint was filed by the school district in 2025 which stated that in a lawsuit issued by Gausman, he made confidential information publicly available as potential exhibits.
Gausman previously told SPM News that he has "done nothing wrong". He has denied the details of his conversation with the new board members and says that the information he filed was not confidential and was immediately sealed by the court.
DES MOINES, Iowa — Iowa's candidates for attorney general are offering competing priorities for the office, from fighting crime and protecting children online to cracking down on wage theft and corporate misconduct. IPR's Tom Barton reports.
Democrat Nate Willems says Iowa's attorney general should focus less on national political battles and more on helping everyday Iowans.
The labor attorney wants to strengthen consumer protection, crack down on wage theft and hold corporate polluters accountable.
"I am not running for attorney general because I'm so eager to be able to put out a press release saying that, ‘Hey, we're the 26th state to join on to this, that, or the other litigation.’ I want the office more focused on Iowa."
Bird is touting her record on public safety as she seeks a second term. She says her office has doubled its prosecutors, expanded services for crime victims and created a cold case unit. Bird spoke Monday at a get-out-the-vote rally in Coralville.
"Five murder cases have been solved and charged out of that unit. The first one, 37 years old, which tells us how important it is. We're not letting them get away with it, are we? "
The election is November third.
