A Sioux City League of Women Voters candidate forum will be held for three Woodbury County elective office positions on Monday evening.
All candidates for those county positions have confirmed their participation for the event at 7 p.m. at Western Iowa Tech Community College.
The setup will involve questions posed by a panel, and then questions from the audience.
There are five members of the county supervisors, and two of those are on the November ballot. Taking part are those running for District 2, with Republican incumbent Dan Bittinger and Democrat Jody House, and in District 4, with Democrat Brittney Wilson and Republican Kolby DeWitt.
Woodbury County Attorney candidates are Democrat Ben Mulford and incumbent Republican James Loomis.
A previously planned league for Tuesday for Iowa Legislature positions is not being held. Three Republican candidates declined invitations or did not respond,.
The league has held the forums for many years in Sioux City. The WITCC Mass Media Department is jointly hosting the Monday event with the Sioux City League of Women Voters.
Early voting has begun in Nebraska, is continuing in South Dakota and will begin in Iowa on October 14.
Early voting begins 30 days before general elections in Nebraska, which is November 3 this year. Nebraska is a “no-excuse” state, meaning any registered voter may request an early-voting (absentee) ballot, and is not required to provide a reason.
South Dakota was the first of the three Siouxland states to have voting, starting 46 days before November 3.
Absentee voting in Yankton County was briefly halted in late September, due to a minor error found on the voting ballot, but voting resumed on October 1.
Iowa used to have early voting 29 days before Election Day, but in 2021 lawmakers pared that back to 20 days. The bipartisan organization representing Iowa’s county election officials opposed the bill.
