Unleaded gas prices in Sioux City made a jump of more than 30 cents on Wednesday, as a longtime energy analyst said more increases are anticipated.
The price for self-serve unleaded rose to $4.44 at a few city stations, which is the highest level in the city since summer 2023.
At midmorning Wednesday, Tom Kloza posted on X/Twitter that, “Overnight US prices advance to $4.37/gal for gasoline and $6.31/gal for diesel. Despite slightly lower futures' prices today, you'll see these numbers rise at the pump as marketers struggle to catch up to epic wholesale increases.”
The price for diesel reached a new high in August, and continues to rise. At the city merchant where gas was priced at $4.44, the diesel fuel price was $6.19.
The current average unleaded price in Iowa is now $4.11, compared to $4.37 as the national average price.
The large one-day jump marks the third time since August that unleaded prices moved 30 or more cents in one day in Sioux City, although prices trickled back lower in subsequent days.
