With the Iowa 4th congressional district election two months from a voting decision, Democrat Dave Dawson has announced a series of upcoming town hall events.
Dawson has set 12 public town halls across the western Iowa district, with the first to be held on Saturday in Carroll. Dawson said his Balance and Accountability Tour will conclude on October 29 in Sioux City.
It appears there may be only one congressional race debate between Dawson and Republican Chris McGowan, a longtime leader of the Siouxland Chamber of Commerce. That event will be held at KTIV studios in Sioux City on September 30.
Dawson wants more debates, and on Thursday said events in Ames and for Iowa Public Television are under discussion.
McGowan did not respond by midafternoon to a request for information on debate options. His website lists several recent endorsements, but does not list any upcoming public events.
The Sioux City League of Women Voters had sought to hold an Iowa 4th congressional debate, but an official on Thursday said there would not be one, as McGowan declined to participate. The league will hold forums on October 5 and 6 for Woodbury County and Iowa Legislative races.
Dawson held a public town hall in all 36 counties of the 4th District during the primary election portion of the year. He won that primary over two other Democrats.
