Democrat Rob Sand leads Republican Zach Lahn in the governor’s race, according to a poll by Emerson College and Nexstar Media.

The poll of around 700 likely voters shows Sand with a 5 percent lead over Lahn. Seven percent in the poll are undecided.

Lahn said the poll shows that he is closing the gap with Sand.

“A lot of this is a factor of people getting to know me and as they do, just like in the primary, they start to come to our side because they realize our message is an Iowa first message,” he said.

Lahn made his comments during a campaign stop in the Sibley in Osceola County last week.

In U.S. Senate race in Iowa, the poll shows Republican Ashley Hinson with 48 percent of support and Democrat Josh Turek 45 percent, with 6 percent undecided.

Lahn is campaigning ober the next three days in towns such as Wapello, Edgewood, and Bellevue in eastern Iowa.

On Monsay and Tuesday 11th, Sand will campaign in eight counties, such as Van Buren, Lee, Washington, Keokuk and Wapello.
