The Woodbury County zoning commission will hold three listening sessions regarding the moratorium on data centers on unincorporated county land.
Currently, the zoning commission is studying data centers to advise the Woodbury County Board of Supervisors on how to facilitate the permitting application process as an amendment or another ordinance.
During the sessions, community members will have the opportunity to provide their input on potential requirements, regulations, zoning districts, and application processes.
Additionally, residents, property owners, and stakeholders are encouraged to attend and share their perspectives at the town halls. The sessions will be in Sloan, Moville, and Salix from August to November.
In June, the board of supervisors approved a one-year moratorium on data centers in unincorporated areas. Previously, the board said the moratorium is an important step and people deserve a fully vetted search into the pros and cons of data centers.
The first town hall meeting is in Sloan on August 31, 2026, at 7:00 pm.
