Republican U.S. Senate nominee Ashley Hinson will campaign in Plymouth and Woodbury counties over the next two days.
She will speak at 4:15 pm Friday at the Plymouth County Fairgrounds Clocktower in Le Mars.
Then on Saturday morning in Sioux City, members of the Northwest Iowa Republican Women group will work with Hinson on a door-knocking Day of Action.
Hinson currently serves as a congresswoman in eastern Iowa. She is vying for the Senate seat with Democrat Josh Turek, of Council Bluffs.
U.S. Senator Joni Ernst is not seeking re-election.
The Iowa Democratic Party has criticized Hinson for voting for the 2025 federal budget bill that cut subsidies to Medicaid. Hinson has defended voting for what she calls a beneficial spending bill.
Relatedly, in another political event, the United Today Stronger Tomorrow group held a Thursday online press event to discuss cuts to Medicaid funding. Two of the participants were Democratic state senator Catelin Drey, of Sioux City, and Alex Watters, a former City Council member.
The federal Medicaid and Medicare health programs were enacted 61 years ago.
