The Iowa Department of Education announced on Wednesday it’s awarding over $2.3 million in grants to 10 school districts to establish therapeutic classrooms.
Three of the school districts in Siouxland are receiving funds, including George Little Rock, Spirit Lake, and Storm Lake.
The therapeutic classrooms will support students with emotional and behavioral needs impacting their ability to be successful in a learning environment.
In 2020, Iowa created the Therapeutic Classroom Incentive grant as part of an initiative to provide support for the mental health needs of children, youth, and families. Therapeutic support includes mental health treatment, crisis intervention, and follow-up.
