The Sioux City School Board and staff held a work session Monday to discuss the board’s priorities for the school district and the steps needed to achieve them.

Consultant Lou Gvist, of the Iowa Association of School Boards, led the 20 participants in discussions on collaborative work, staff and student support, and family engagement in the school district to achieve its mission and goals.

Gvist told the participants the board’s job is to set the direction on what the school district wants to accomplish within the next 3 to 5 years. She added the board needs to theorize the help the system needs to support future students and finances.

Gvist said where the staff was hired to look at short term goals, how to achieve them, the needs of the school district, and align with the board’s mission and vision.
