Noted South Dakota businessman and philanthropist T. Denny Sanford has died at age 90.
The Sanford Health Organization on Saturday announced his death.
Sanford is well-known for his philanthropic projects for the healthcare industry throughout the Midwest. Some of his notable projects include the hospitals and medical education in South Dakota.
In 2004, Sanford made a donation of $16 million to the Sioux Valley Hospitals and Health System to build a standalone children’s hospital in Sioux Falls.
In 2006, he donated $20 million to the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine to expand its range of programs, resources, and quality of medical education.
Sanford first became a multimillionaire within ten years by launching his first company, Contech Inc. He pursued a new avenue, buying a bank in Sioux Falls, where he started to invest in the healthcare system.
