Democratic governor nominee Rob Sand spoke to more than 250 people in a Sioux City campaign stop Thursday, asserting that the "fundamentally divisive" current political system isn't working for Iowans.
Sand added that Iowa's tradition of good government is being chipped away: "State government has lost its way."
Health care, water quality and education are are among his priorities. Regarding the current economy, Sand said, "People notice their pocketbook is lighter."
About a dozen people raised hands when Sand asked political independents to identify themselves. He has been touting a campaign message of working to win Republican voters, to be a governor for all.
With the event at Sioux City Distilling, Sand was marking a third consecutive week with campaign events in Northwest Iowa.
Recent area stops included Onawa, Spirit Lake, Sibley, Rock Rapids, Le Mars, Sioux Center and Estherville..
Sand is currently the Iowa state auditor, and Zach Lahn is his Republican opponent. Earler this week, Lahn called for six Lincoln Douglas style debates. Sand some days ago proposed four debates.
