Storm Lake has joined the growing list of communities discussing regulations for e-bikes and e-scooters.
Many residents throughout Northwest Iowa since April have expressed their concerns regarding the modes of transportation, leading to discussion about ordinances and regulations.
During a town hall meeting, residents in Storm Lake voiced their concerns about e-transportation.
There was mention of increased accidents involving e-micromobility and comments on how they are creating safety issues, as first reported by KCAU.
Following the public input portion of the meeting, a demonstration was held to show what an e-bike or an e-scooter looks like going 20 miles per hour.
Currently, Storm Lake doesn’t have local ordinances regarding e-bikes or e-scooters but may discuss it at the next city council meeting.
Sergeant Bluff, Sioux Center, and Moville have updated their rules on trails and sidewalks in response to the surge of e-bikes, e-scooters, and electric motorcycles.
Previously, Dickinson County changed the speed limits on recreational trails to 20 miles per hour and is considering ordinances on personal electric vehicles.
