Tornado hits town in eastern Woodbury County

A tornado touched down in eastern Woodbury County on Wednesday evening.

The tornado was spotted moving from Smithland to Oto, leaving behind damage to the area.

Michael Montino, Director of the Woodbury County Emergency Management, told Siouxland Public Media that the agency assessed the area.

Montino said damages include a building, trees, a couple of headstones in Oto’s cemetery, and crops.

The National Weather Service sent out an alert around 8pm.

According to the National Weather Service, parts of Northwest Iowa may face another round of severe storms Friday evening; details are uncertain at this time.
