More than 200 people looked on as Morningside University officials broke ground for a new business school building.

That Thursday ceremony was for Honeck Freymann Hall, which will be the future home of the Rosen School of Business.

Morningside University President Chad Benson said the new building is a major step in the university’s ongoing investment in academic excellence and campus growth.

“At a time when many universities are pulling back, Morningside is making investments,” Benson said.

Benson said the building, with hubs for learning, hands-on learning and professional development, should be open by January 2028.

“We have 375 students in our Business School. We have well outgrown the Lincoln Center. This is gonna open the door for us to do a lot of interesting and amazing things for those students,” he said.

Donor Tom Rosen and Dr. Thomas Paulsen, Interim Dean of the School of Business, were among the people involved in the groundbreaking.

As the final photos were snapped, President Benson called out, “Alright construction crew, go to work!”

Morningside University, a private college in Sioux City, has an enrollment of 2,200.
