The fellow Republican who lost a party primary election to Ashley Hinson for the U.S. Senate seat in Iowa is now urging Republicans not to vote for her in the November election.

Hinson handily defeated Jim Carlin, of Sioux City, two weeks ago.

In a Monday release, Carlin said nominees need to earn votes, and he contends Hinson has not done that.

“I cannot in good conscience ask you to vote for Ashley Hinson. She does not share our values and a Republican label is not enough,” Carlin said.

He said Hinson’s campaigning model relied on “donors, lobbyists, corporations, and Washington insiders over the voices of ordinary Americans.”

Hinson’s campaign did not immediately comment on Monday afternoon.

Carlin said that perhaps time “for a Christian constitutional conservative movement or party that actually represents the people who still believe in faith, family, freedom, truth, borders, honest money, and the Constitution of the United States.”

Hinson’s Democratic opponent on the November ballot is Josh Turek, a state lawmaker from Council Bluffs.

In prepping for the fall elections, both the Iowa Democratic and Iowa Republican parties held their state conventions on Saturday.
