The Sioux City Library board of trustees is looking to restart the search for the director in the next couple of weeks.
Jim Wharton, a board member of the library, told Siouxland Public Media on Monday that the board is working with a firm that specializes in searching for applicants in the library field, adding it began in late March or early April.
Wharton mentioned how during its previous search it had multiple candidates, which narrowed down to three finalists. However, two ended up withdrawing their applications for other job opportunities and health issues.
He added the board of trustees did not feel right about interviewing just one candidate, that they didn’t want to rush into anything, and decided to wait.
Wharton said it’s a critical position and that the board is going to take its time to get the right person for the position.
He hopes, if everything goes to plan, that the library will have a new director by late August or early September.
