As the primary election approaches in South Dakota, two Republicans will be competing for the U.S. Senate seat.

The two Republicans running are current U.S. Senator Mike Rounds and U.S. Navy veteran Justin McNeal.

Rounds’ priorities include strengthening enforcement at the border, tax cuts, and supporting farmers and ranchers. He has previously served as governor, and won previous Senate terms in 2014 and 2020.

As for McNeal, his priorities include strengthening national defense, expanding domestic energy production, and reducing excessive spending.

McNeal is a businessman and served in the Navy from 2001 to 2007.

The primary election on June 2 will determine who advances to the November ballot, to face Democrat Julian Beaudion.

There is also a U.S. Senate race in Iowa, with multiple candidates in both parties. Democratic candidate Josh Turek campaigned in Sioux City on Thursday evening. The other Democrat is state legislator Zach Wahls, of Coralville.

Jim Carlin, of Sioux City, is one of two Republicans running for the U.S. Senate seat, along with Ashley Hinson. Carlin is a former state legislator.
