Four Republican candidates are seeking the South Dakota governor post, and the primary election on June 2 will determine who advances to the November ballot.

The four Republicans running for governor include businessman Toby Doeden, Congressman Dusty Johnson, Governor Larry Rhoden, and State House Speaker Jon Hansen.

Johnson has a sizable advantage in campaign fundraising.

A recent poll shows that Doeden is taking the lead in the race, a spot that Johnson recently held in another poll.

Johnson aims to launch an initiative that invests about $2 million to grow the state’s economy by turning residents’ ideas to thriving local businesses.

According to Rhoden’s website, his accomplishments include the largest property tax cut in state history, which was passed by the Legislature this year. That point was also voiced by Hansen, as he helped oversee the bill.

All four men have voiced they are against abortion.

If no candidate receives at least 35 percent of the vote on June 2, a runoff will be scheduled for July 28.
