Salix community members raised concerns about a possible data center being built during a city council meeting Wednesday evening.
In April the city council approved the annexation of about 950 acres of land on the town’s north edge. However the use of the land is still unknown.
Kevin Nelson, the mayor of Salix, again stated this endeavor arose from about six property owners who “wanted their land annexed into Salix."
The voluntary annexation option is being pursued.
During the meeting, residents asked many questions, but said they were frustrated about a lack of firm details. At least one person said the council's role is to be transparent on key details, local media reported.
More residents spoke at Wednesday's meeting compared to the April meeting.
There have not been any requests to rezone the land, it remains zoned as agricultural land.
