The Sioux City School Board extended the interim superintendent’s contract on Thursday.

According to the press release, Jim Vanderloo’s contract for the interim superintendent role will be extended for one year through June 2027.

The release also says the discussion regarding the extension began immediately after the superintendent search process, adding the board felt it was important to wait on announcing it until negotiations began.

The board is confident Vanderloo’s leadership will support district employees, assist student success, and move its educational mission forward.

One week ago, the board held a meeting regarding the available superintendent role but did not select a candidate to fill the spot, saying they could not reach a unanimous decision.

Following the meeting, community members spoke in support of interim superintendent Jim Vanderloo being elevated to superintendent.

The other two finalists for the superintendent position were Tim Miller and Will Pickens III.
