As Siouxland officials continue to work to get enough money to rehab a runway at Sioux Gateway Airport, $10 million in state funding has been approved.

Longtime Sioux City state legislator Jacob Bossman on Thursday announced the state lawmakers' funding decision. He said getting that airport change is an important investment in the future of Sioux City.

That state $10 million piece will be official once Governor Kim Reynolds signs the infrastructure budget bill.

Mayor Bob Scott has previously told Siouxland Public Media News that getting federal funding for the Sioux Gateway Airport is crucial to maintaining the 185th unit in modern standing with infrastructure.

The full cost of the runway is estimated at $100 million, and there are now expected revenues from the state and federal government.

The anticipated work is for a runway repair and replacement, an Aircraft Parking Apron, and more. The Iowa Air National Guard 185th Air Refueling Wing has more than 1,000 jobs.

In the Sioux City Council meeting on Monday, an airport usage plan will be discussed.
