An important link in the Sioux City metro recreation trails is slated to be completed, with a pedestrian bridge over the Big Sioux River.
The Sioux City Council will discuss the final payment for phase two of the bridge construction project in its meeting Monday.
According to a city memo, it was originally estimated to cost $1.8 million. But it ended up costing $1.5 million, as there were frequent adjustments made to the project.
The project is a public and private partnership. As part of a sharing agreement, Dakota Dunes CID provided $140,000.
Additionally, the Parks and Recreation foundation donated $465,000 for the project.
Construction for the project began in spring of 2024, but was delayed due to the June flood. Construction is expected to be completed Friday May 8, City Parks Director Matt Salvatore told Siouxland Public Media News.
The project is located north of interstate 29 and includes retaining wall construction, and paving the trail.
