Centers Against Abuse and Sexual Assault

Centers Against Abuse and Sexual Assault is hosting two events this week to raise awareness about sexual assault, domestic violence, and human trafficking.

CAASA is a non-profit organization committed to supporting survivors of sexual violence, assault, and abuse.

Stephanie Henrich, executive director of CAASA, told Siouxland Public Media on Monday that Tuesday’s event is to raise awareness, honor, and provide resources to survivors.

Henrich noted many survivors and victims don’t know who to contact or what services and resources are available, adding the event will provide that information.

She mentioned healthcare workers, counselors, and other agencies who work with survivors and victims will be at the event. Henrich wants the event to provide some kind of hope.

According to Henrich, the average number of sexual assaults in Sioux City for 2024 was 284.

On Wednesday, CAASA is showing a documentary called Gridshock and a discussion with community resource panelists. The panels will include local law enforcement, county attorneys, and agencies.

Henrich said the documentary is meant to serve as a catalyst so local residents can hear from real people about what is happening within the community and how they can receive help.

The rights awareness event is at the Sioux City Convention Center, April 21st, from 9 am to 4 pm.

The documentary showing and panel discussion are at Headline Event Space in Le Mars on April 22nd from 6 pm to 8 pm.
