The Sioux City School District announced its top three finalists for the open superintendent position on Thursday.
The three men include the interim superintendent for the Sioux City district, a top official in the Chicago Public Schools system and an administrator who works for a Texas school that was the place of a high-profile school shooting in 2022.
Tim Miller most recently served as Executive Director of the Uvalde Moving Forward Foundation in Uvalde, Texas. Miller coordinated efforts to raise $60 million to build Legacy Elementary School in Uvalde to replace Robb Elementary School, the site of the mass shooting.
Other finalists are Will Pickens III, and Interim Superintendent Jim Vanderloo, who has held multiple principal and administrative roles, including Director of Secondary Education, for more than three decades.
Pickens is deputy chief of Schools for Chicago Public Schools, and he oversees 35 schools for that role.
Earlier this week, the Sioux City School Board held additional special closed meetings to pinpoint finalist candidates.
Community forums for the three finalists will be held at the downtown school administration building on April 29. The forum for Miller will be held at 4 p.m., with 5:15 p.m. for Pickens and 6:30 p.m. for Vanderloo.
People can submit possible questions for the candidates by April 24 at https://tinyurl.com/4kx45ztz. A job offer to a superintendent candidate could be extended by early May, for a position to begin in July.
One year ago, the board hired Juan Cordova of Missouri as superintendent, but after being placed on two leave of absences, he resigned. Vanderloo has since been serving as interim superintendent.
