The Sioux City Council approved the property tax levy for fiscal year 2026-2027 in a short special meeting Monday.

Teresa Fitch, Finance Director of the city, said that the actual levy will be $15.51 per $1,000 of taxable property valuation.

According to Fitch, the levy rate is just below its 10-year average of $15.77.

During the public hearing Fitch provided a presentation that showed residential property with an assessed value of $100,000 will see a decrease of $113 in city property taxes. Commercial properties will see a decrease of $399.

Residents of the city had the opportunity to speak on the levy during the public hearing, but nobody spoke or was present.

The levy passed on a 4 to 0 vote.

The levy and entire city budget for the 2027 fiscal year will be officially passed by April.
