It appears the vacancy on the Sioux City School Board will be filled after a special meeting on Wednesday afternoon.

The board will meet at 4 p.m., and the agenda says the three persons who indicated they want to be appointed to the board will have statements read.

The three people who applied over the last week and a half for the open board position are Jebediah Hibbs, Christian Supiot-Perez and Ryan Dumkrieger.

When there is a school board vacancy in Iowa, the seat can be filled by appointment or people in the school district can seek to force a special election. The timeline to file a petition for a special election ends at 5 p.m. Tuesday, and so far no one sought that step, a school district official said.

There are seven seats on the Sioux City School Board. The school board vacancy was created by the resignation of member Jan George in mid-March.

After the statements by Hibbs, Dumkreiger and Supiot-Perez, the board members will vote on the person to appoint.

Following that, the oath of office will be administered for the member that will bring the board back to full strength.

The other board members are President Treyla Lee, Bobby Michaelson, Cyndi Hanson, Lance Ehmcke, John Meyers and Earl Miller.
