The Sioux City School Board will be covering multiple topics in its meeting Monday, including the interim superintendent contract, the appointment process for the open board seat, and the budget for FY’27.
According to a memo, the school board is offering a contract to Jim Vanderloo for the interim superintendent position, which began on February 26th, 2026 and ends June 30th, 2026.
The board has the option to extend Vanderloo’s contract as interim superintendent for one year and he can apply for the superintendent position.
As interim superintendent, Vanderloo must provide a valid and appropriate license to act as superintendent in the state of Iowa.
The board will evaluate and assess the interim superintendent’s performance once during the term of his contract.
According to the memo, the salary for the interim superintendent is $94,122, which is $22,916 per month, including the allocation of 3 days in February.
Additionally, the board will discuss providing an adjustment to the FY27 budget costs if it is lower than 101 percent of FY26. The budget for FY’26 was about $203.5 million.
A memo states for the district to receive the adjustment the board must adopt a proposal by April 30th.
The preliminary aid and levy worksheet show the school district qualifies for the budget adjustment for FY’27.
Management of the general fund impacts the quality and capacity of services the district provides to students.
Furthermore, Dr. Paul Gausman and the Sioux City School Board will have a hearing on Tuesday regarding a closed session violating Iowa Code Chapter 21 according to the Iowa Courts website.
