With some community people complaining about the quality of entertainment acts being brought to Sioux City venues, the Sioux City Council may create an incentive to bring in more notable acts.
The Sioux City Council members in a March 18 budget session discussed the merits of creating a booking incentive fund to be used by the OVG Hospitality firm to pay more to land acts.
City officials have heard that some bands or comedians will go tyo larger venues in Omaha or Sioux Falls. An OVG official said some extra money coming from that booking fund could be enough to get bigger name performers.
When it comes to keeping the Tyson Events Center regu;arly booked, Mayor Bob Scott told OVG officials, "You sold yourselves as experts, but you haven't delivered on what you promised."
The initial request was to have a pool of $500,000. Councilmen Ike Rayford and Craig Berenstein suggested lower amounts, so a motion with $300,000 was approved on a 5-0 vote..
That amount will be officially put in place when the council approves the fiscal year 2026-27 budget by April.
The city memo said that “to ensure transparency, each request to use the Booking Incentive Fund will be submitted to the city manager for review and approval prior to committing any funds.”
