Jan George of Sioux City School Board

The filing period for people who want to be appointed to the Sioux City School Board opened on Tuesday and will run through next week.

The board and school district on the district website published a notice of intent to fill the school board position opening by the appointment process.

People who want to be considered must submit a letter of interest to the Board Secretary by March 27. That letter should include their qualifications and reason for interest.

The Sioux City School Board vacancy was created by the resignation of member Jan George last week.

If someone in the public wants the position to be filled instead by a special election, they must submit a petition with more than 2,000 signatures by March 30.
