The quest to bring a first ever splash pad to the city of Spencer, Iowa, is getting closer.

The Spencer City Council members in a Monday meeting approved the plans for the splash pad, which will be near the city aquatic center at Riverside Park.

The estimated cost is $1.2 million, and the next step is a bid letting on April 6.

The city’s website says, “For years, a splash pad in Spencer has been a community dream—and now we’re closer than ever.” Roughly $500,000 was raised from donations, and hotel and local option sales taxes were the other main funding sources.

Supporters of the project say splash pads are a great recreation piece, as a quality of life piece to enhance the town of 11,300 people.
