With the big November 2026 election on the horizon, many officeseekers have announced plans to run, and as of Tuesday they could begin filing nomination papers in Iowa.
Iowa people running for state or federal office must file nomination papers from February 24 to March 13. Those pursuing county office in Iowa have a differing filing period, as they must file from March 2 to 20.
Voters in the midterm elections will determine the winners for some governor, congressional, legislative and county seats in Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota.
Meanwhile, the candidate filing period in Nebraska began in January.
Nebraska candidates who are already in office and seeking another term had to file nomination papers by Feb. 17, while nonincumbent candidates have until March 2.
