The Omaha Tribe of Nebraska held a groundbreaking ceremony and blessing for its new Boys and Girls Club on Tuesday.

During the ceremony, Lavette Miller, Chief Executive of the Tribe’s Boys and Girls Club, thanked everyone who attended the event, supported the project, and helped make it become a reality.

Miller said the facility gives the children in the community a safe place where they can feel supported, accepted, and be themselves.

She also mentioned how the facility will provide opportunities and activities for the kids that they otherwise might not have.

According to a statement, the tribe’s Boys and Girls Club was established in 2022 and has two locations in Macy and Walthill.

The new club will offer year-round programming, teen leadership development, and cultural and traditional activities.

The club will also encourage tribal youth to explore opportunities outside their reservation while staying connected to their cultural values, traditions, and heritage.
