Iowa state representative Matt Windschitl announced Friday that he is dropping from the Iowa 4th Congressional District Race.
Windschitl, a Republican first took office in January 2007, he currently represents Iowa House District 15.
In a statement, he said after deep reflection he has decided to end his campaign for congress.
Windschitl said, given recent developments, it’s clear continuing would not serve his goals or the people of the 4th congressional district, as first reported by the Sioux City Journal.
He stated he would not quit serving the people of Iowa, and he will find other ways to give back to the community.
Windschitl raised no money in the fourth quarter and has about $47,000 in campaign cash.
He said that McGowan has his full endorsement in the June primary.
His term will end in January 2027.
Other candidates running for the 4th Congressional District seat are Republicans Chris McGowan, Ryan Rhodes, and Christian Schlafer.
From the Democratic party are Ashley WolfTornabane, Stephanie Steiner, and former state representative Dave Dawson.
