As cold weather enters the Siouxland area, the warming shelter in Sioux City has been preparing to accommodate more people than usual.
Shayla Moore, Executive Director of the Warming Shelter, told Siouxland Public Media on Thursday they have been making sure that all the supplies they have are organized, ready, and available so they can keep people warm during these next few days.
Moore said the shelter is currently serving about 140 people per night and expects that number to rise as it gets colder.
“Technically our capacity is 116; however, we do continue to take people after that number even if it does mean putting them on our day shelter side,” she said.
Moore mentioned the shelter is more than happy to provide supplies like blankets to people who have a safe place to stay but need help keeping warm.
