The Woodbury County Board of Supervisors moved forward to the next steps for the demolition of the old county jail in their meeting Tuesday.
According to the memo, building services requested that the board of supervisors approve setting a date to open and receive bid submissions and to award a contract on December 9th.
During the meeting, Kenny Schmitz, Building Services Director of Woodbury County, said that there was a good turnout for the pre-bid walk-through with contractors, and about 20 firms attended.
Terry Glade of CMBA Architects said that work for the demolition is expected to be done by March 2026, weather permitting.
In 2020, the county supervisors decided to stop pursuing costly repairs to the old jail building and instead to build a new one.
The former jail was built across the street from the Woodbury County Courthouse in 1987.
Bids for the demolition will open on December 9th.
