The Omaha Tribe of Nebraska announced it is changing its enrollment processes and procedures.
The tribe is making changes to its constitution on tribal membership to a lineal descent model, which would allow more people to enroll in the tribe.
People who can trace their lineage to the original 1963 membership register would be eligible or qualified to enroll in the tribe.
John Cariter, Attorney General of the Omaha Tribe, said, “This is something again very exciting for the tribe. We expect this to greatly increase our eligible members, and we will continue to grow as a tribe through the future.”
Currently there is a temporary pause on enrollment while the office implements the new processes and procedures.
Enrollment is expected to reopen on January 1st, 2026.
