Governor Kim Reynolds announced Wednesday that the state has submitted its application for the Rural Health Transformation program. The Rural Health Transformation is a federal initiative providing $50 billion to states over five years to improve rural healthcare systems.
Reynolds’ proposal, Healthy Hometowns, aims to improve health, quality of life, and well-being in rural communities across Iowa.
The project will address healthcare issues by increasing access to cancer screening and treatment, recruiting and retaining healthcare providers, and expanding telehealth.
If fully awarded, Iowa could receive $200 million annually over the next five years, which totals $1 billion.
Recipients are expected to be notified by the end of the year.
