Early voting in Iowa has been taking place for a week, ahead of the November 4 elections for school board, city council and mayor positions.

In Woodbury County, nearly 500 people have cast early ballots either at the Woodbury County Courthouse in downtown Sioux City or by mailing in early ballots they had requested. Woodbury County elections official Steve Hofmeyer gave that statistic on Wednesday after early voting started on October 15.

He said 295 people have returned early ballots and 192 had voted in person as of midday Wednesday.

Alfredo Aceves voted Wednesday morning at the courthouse, when seven people voted in a 10-minute period. He said he is often “super busy” on Election Day, which falls on a weekday, so his habit is to vote early.

Woodbury County officials have just added two more early voting satellite sites in Sergeant Bluff, which will occur on October 27 and 30.

In Sioux City, voters will determine three members of the Sioux City School Board and also three members of the Sioux City Council, from a combined total of 14 candidates.
