Sioux City airport stops running video by Noem blaming Democrats for government shutdown

Ways To Subscribe

Sioux Gateway Airport has joined other airports across Iowa in refusing to play a video of Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem blaming Democrats for the federal government shutdown.

Multiple airports across Iowa, including Des Moines, Mason City, and near Cedar Rapids, have said they won’t play the video due to its politically partisan nature.

In the video, Noem says Democrats are responsible for impacts to Transportation Security Administration or TSA operations.

Some experts have said the video may be a violation of federal laws prohibiting executive branch agencies from engaging in political activity. A spokesperson for the Eastern Iowa Airport says, as a public entity, the airport doesn’t play videos that can be considered political or partisan.

Sioux Gateway Airport initially played the video, but stopped after widespread reports of other airports refusing to show it.

Noem is a former governor of South Dakota.
