The Iowa Board of Regents is directing all three state universities to initiate investigations of alleged violations of board policies related to social media use.
As part of the directive, any employee under investigation must be placed on administrative leave or removed from the classroom.
Presidents of the universities are authorized to take disciplinary action up to and including termination if an employee is found to have violated board policies following the completion of the investigation.
Additionally, the board’s executive director is allowed to direct universities to launch investigations of any future alleged violations, including placing employees on leave.
In the meeting, Regent Cramer said, “We’re not talking about punishing anyone for what they said or posted, but we are also saying there is no absolute right to employment if that employee is disrupting the university.”
