The U.S. Department of Justice has requested that Nebraska’s chief election officer provide the state’s unredacted voter registration data.

In the letter the agency asked Secretary Robert Evnen to submit a copy of Nebraska’s statewide voter registration list, including voters’ names, birth dates, addresses, and so forth.

Whether Evnen and his office will comply remains to be seen.

Dozens of states are known to have received similar requests from Harmeet Dhillon, an attorney who oversees the Justice Department’s civil rights division.

The letters are the latest effort by the Trump administration to investigate past elections.

States have responded in varying ways; some have provided their full unredacted voter registration lists, others have submitted only publicly available information, and a few have refused.

In Nebraska a list of registered voters is publicly accessible for a fee.
